Sarah Figueroa Wounded Wings Mixed media 24"w x 36"h Did you know that butterflies can still fly with injured wings?
Blue butterflies symbolize resilience, hope and rebirth. They reflect a transformational journey and recovery from trauma. They can represent perseverance despite adversity.
The multitude of girls, children, and women that have endured the pain and trauma of sexual assault must be acknowledged. How many have been shattered from the distress and injustice that followed their abuse, while their attackers walk free; unscathed and without consequence? From the victims of the abhorrent Epstein files, to the impregnated girls being held at the San Benito ICE detention center, to even just ‘the girl next door’ - the iniquities are absolutely insurmountable.
This piece is dedicated to all the ‘butterflies’ flying with tattered wings; those overcoming the wounds of their trauma, and still finding their way.
“Their wings may be torn, but these butterflies are not broken. They are still flying, and still trying. They are survivors.” - author Nancy Lawson @forfigssake.art $250 |
