“Slipping into Cyberspace”

Digital Photography, art Print, 24x36

To me, this character is escaping their reality for the last time by deciding to live in cyberspace till their final breath. These images show that choice from an outside perspective of the character laying down, as well as from her perspective as the world slowly disintegrates and fades away into digital code and pixels. I think the cables encroaching the character symbolize how the depression takes over and makes you feel crippled, and tangled. The images look so cozy, but it’s rather deceiving. I’ve struggled with depression for years and when I took these photos and began editing. I felt such a strong connection to them because there have been days I’ve seen myself wanting to go to bed and just cease to exist. It’s been rather cathartic to take photos that I can emotionally connect with in such a profound way. Aesthetically, a lot of this shoot is inspired by “Serial Experiments Lain” and “The Electric State” by Simon Stålenhag.
