This piece was born from my fascination with the recurring archetype of the 'avenging angel' or the 'dangerous protector.' Whether found in religion, Westerns, or comic books, these figures occupy a complex space: flawed and intimidating, but unwilling to allow harm to be brought against the innocent. The reckoner emerges from that tradition inhabiting the uneasy territory between hero and outlaw; justice and vengeance.
