“Ceremonia Ancestral”
Acrylic on wood
My inspiration was the ancestral medicines (Ayahuasca, psilocybin mushrooms & cacao) used in ceremonies for centuries by our ancestors. The way they are tranformed from plant/fungi into medicines that heal the soul. Inspired by Maria Sabina (1894-1985) (right) she was a Mexican curandera who would perform healing vigils known as veladas in Huautla de Jimenez, Oaxaca where all participants would ingest psilocybin mushrooms (Maria's holy children), as a sacrament to open the gates of the mind and communicate with the sacred. As well as Ayahuasca (center) & Cacao (left).
