Tandie van den Berg
From Good Kid m.A.A.d. city, to Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, Kendricks music has been playing in my ears for the past 10 years. His poetic nature is what originally drew me to him, but the fire he started in me is what kept me listening. I'd blast his music at the protests, feeling the power in his words as I'd march. I listened to every song on every album he's ever created as I was painting him, and tried to capture his essence in each stroke. When choosing the reference for my piece, I felt that this photo represented him in all his power, as the King of our time - draped in his furs with braids falling all around his face. To me, he may be the greatest rapper alive, but who am I to judge?
